BRIEF ON LAGOS PEACE PARK, OJOTA

Description: The three gardens which make up the Peace Park, though separated by access roads are located on the verge of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway inwards Tipper Garage, Ketu bordered on the East by the M.K.O Abiola Garden; on the North by the Apostolic Church/LAWNA; and the Tipper Garage, Ketu on the West. Gardens B (circular (loop) garden) and C (triangular-shaped garden) are separated by a road that connects the Lagos – Ibadan express road to Ikorodu road.

• Garden A: A triangular-shaped garden covering about 9,500sqm directly facing the LAMATA terminal along Ikorodu Road;

 

• Garden B: A Circular (Loop) garden covering over 11,000sqm along Ikorodu road and adjoining the overhead bridge

 

• Garden C: A triangular-shaped garden covering about 15,000sqm is sandwiched in between three major access roads: a connecting road inward Ketu from third mainland bridge, road from third mainland bridge inwards toll gate/7up and a road connecting Ojota/Maryland to Lagos- Ibadan express road.

The establishment of Peace Park was the initiative of Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to serve as a memorial to the citizens of Lagos State following the peaceful protests against the abuse of human rights that happened throughout Lagos in October 2020. The Peace Park serves as one of the steps to bring closure to a painful stint in the history of our dear State and as a mark of peaceful resolution and sensitization to forestall future recurrence of same.

Therefore the loops/gardens within Ojota adjoining the Freedom Park, Ojota which was in a deplorable state as a result of urchins and street traders who had previously converted the gardens for commercial activities as well as shelter, was identified to be re-developed into a beautiful scenic park with the introduction of some facilities which are as stated below:

1. Lush green lawn with beautiful ornamental shrubs and trees
2. Connecting walkways to the 3 gardens for seamless mobility

• Monument (Lagos Iconic Chair) to indicate that Lagos welcomes all and sundry

1. Garden seats and pergolas at strategic locations
2. An iconic memorial wall depicting unity and peace
3. Entrance tunnels at strategic locations of each garden

• Water wave tunnel
• illumination

1. See-through block wall perimeter fence
2. Convenience at strategic locations for users
3. A Large Peace logo and a medium sized peace logo surrounded by walkways depicting peace symbol

• Car park and Police post to ensure safety of lives and properties of users and immediate community

The park was commissioned by Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for public use on October 15, 2022.
