The General Manager of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) , Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, has extended the willingness of the Agency to strengthen collaboration with the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) in promoting environmental sustainability and green infrastructure within the council.

During a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Mr. Bola Oladunjoye, on Wednesday, the LASPARK General Manager who congratulated the council boss on his election , identified Ikoyi as a blend of rich history and vibrant community that has strategic importance in Lagos State.

While highlighting some LASPARK’s landmark projects already implemented within Ikoyi and environs, including the RF Garden and the BMX Skate Park at Osborne, developed in partnership with Red Bull, Mrs. Popoola said that these green initiatives are clear examples of the State Government’s commitment to creating inclusive recreational spaces and promoting a greener, healthier Lagos.

While acknowledging the progress made, the General Manager emphasized the need for stronger synergy between LASPARK and the LCDA to address challenges arising from rapid urban development, particularly the issue of unauthorized tree felling.

She pleaded for the Council’s cooperation in promptly reporting such incidents to prevent further environmental degradation.

In his response, the council Chairman, Mr. Bola Oladunjoye reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental renewal, revealing that one of his key mandates to the people of Ikoyi is to plant thousands of trees across the LCDA as part of efforts to restore and surpass the area’s historic beauty.

He admitted that while financial resources might be limited, his administration remains resolute in achieving this vision, pledging to work closely with LASPARK to realize a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable Ikoyi.

“We will not make excuses. Our goal is to restore Ikoyi to its former glory , and even beyond. With LASPARK’s support, this dream will become a reality,” the Chairman assured.

This courtesy visit by the General Manager of LASPARK and some principal officers of the agency is part of LASPARK’s ongoing advocacy and partnership drive with Local Government and Local Council Development Authorities across Lagos State to promote environmental stewardship, community involvement, and sustainable urban development.
